Gender 101

Hey Parents!

We’ve begun an exciting new series this month called Gender 101. Our goal is to lay out the basics of our gender differences and discover our identities and who God alone says we are as young men and women. During January, we’ll be shuffling around our male and female staff members so each Unplugged Small Group has a mix of both. Within these groups we’ll be discussing important questions and issues regarding  the opposite sex and how we approach them as real men and women of God.

I’d like to encourage you as parents to engage with your teen(s) often this month about what they’re hearing and learning in FlipSide so you can be on the same page about this crucial topic. When we pray to God and read about God, we tend to see Him as a far off being who journeys through the galaxies to our rescue. It’s this same perspective that keeps us from realizing the power we can have in our lives as Believers. As long as we see God from a distance we’ll never experience the power of God IN us! Join us at FlipSide LIVE this Wednesday, December 1 from 7-9pm as we kick off the Christmas season right! Warship

We’re starting a new series in FlipSide LIVE on November 3rd called ‘Warship.’ One of the greatest weapons a follower of Christ has is their ability to worship anywhere anytime. This ability is not unlike Guerilla Warfare, where the enemy can be taken off guard at any point in time. Join us Wednesday, November 3rd, 7-9p, as we tap into the often unused power of true worship and discover how it can quickly change the way we live.

 

FlipSide OUTSIDE!

We’ve been cookin’ up something new for FlipSide this year and it’s just about ready to come out of the oven! It’s called FlipSide OUTSIDE and it’s about taking the truth of the Gospel outside of the walls of the church.

FlipSide will be meeting at a new location on the last Wednesday of each month beginning in September 2010. Our mission is to serve our community in creative ways that simply demonstrate the love of Jesus. Each months location will be announced at the beginning of the month via Facebook, Twitter, FS LIVE, the Parent Blog & FlipSide.net. Each teen will be asked to bring a minimum of $5 to contribute to whatever that months project may be.

FlipSide UNPLGD closed 4 the Summer

FlipSide UNPLUGGED will be taking a break for the Summer (June, July, August). Here’s why:

1. To give our incredible volunteers some much needed rest so they’re ready to hit the ground running for the 2010-2011 school year.
2. To take a step back and look at all we’re doing in UNPLGD and see how God would have us make it even better!

Dry your eyes guys! FlipSide LIVE and the 2010 FlipSide Summer Tour will still be in full effect so we can all stay connected throughout the Summer!

Kyle Runner’s Mission to Sweden

Kyle Runner moved to Wilmington several years ago to attend school and immediately got plugged into the ministry at ROCK Church. He’s served the teens at FlipSide faithfully over the past 2 years. Both on stage and off stage, Kyle has shown an incredible passion for ministry and a true servants heart. Recently he was given an opportunity to attend a mission trip to Sweden with Campus Crusade for Christ. Your immediate thought is probably much like mine was, “Really? Sweden? Aren’t they a pretty developed country?” As a matter of fact, yes they are. In fact Sweden is one of the most educated and wealthiest countries on the planet! We often view ‘Mission trips’ as being only for 3rd world countries where the physical need is great, when in fact ‘poverty of the soul‘ can present a much greater need than ‘financial poverty.’ It is often those who have ‘too much‘ that most need the truth of the gospel.

The trip is set to take place from May 12- June 21 of this year. The total cost is $5,500 and Kyle needs a remaining $4000 by May 5th in order to attend. He could greatly use your help in raising this money. If you are able to invest in Kyles mission to spread the gospel to Sweden, please respond as soon as possible. Make War!

The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.

If you’ve given your life to Christ then you’ve essentially said, “I DECLARE WAR!” We often go through life surprised when temptation comes and we actually fall for it. The bible tells us to “Be aware” that Satan is roaming around like a lion ready to devour us. It’s hard to fight in war that you’re not even aware is happening.
